Why I Could Not Stand Trudy’s Development In Series 5

Now I know I am going to get angry responses about this, but hear me out!

Now Trudy as a character came on leaps and bounds between series 1 and 4.  She moved from being a scared, almost weak girl to a strong and confident woman. She had been through teenage pregnancy, heartbreak, brainwashing and then deprogramming. She also had to deal with Salene’s eating disorder, Lex’s constant abuse, and losing her best friend. Trudy had proved by this point that she was tough and could take on anything thrown in her way.

Between series 2 and series 3 we saw a different side of Trudy and this is what caused her character to blossom into a no-nonsense mother who would do anything to protect her family.

TO SAY THAT TRUDY HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT IS A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT...

She had such strong development that I do not understand what happened to her in series 5!  She moved from being strong and fiery to almost weak and overly sweet. Most of my memories of series 5 are Trudy talking with an overly whimsical voice and being back to doubting herself.  Her relationship with Jay may be at the centre of this.

She doubts herself when she is with him then reverts back to an almost series 1 mentality. She throws herself into the relationship and it’s almost like they forgot everything that happened before it. She allows herself to become taken in by Mega – something I never thought that would happen after being brainwashed by the Guardian. She reveals secrets to him and is then kicked out into the cold.

This is not the Trudy we saw post Chosen in series 3 and throughout series 4.

DID THE RELATIONSHIP WITH JAY UNDO SO MUCH OF TRUDY'S DEVELOPMENT?

I wish that series 5 had been something completely different for Trudy.  I wish that they had continued with her development and that she found someone just for her.  Series 5 was like a mirror of series 1 … the only difference being Salene didn’t have a kiss with Jay before him and Amber got together!
